The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They are members of the National Hockey League (NHL) and compete in the Western Conference's Pacific Division. The Oilers were founded in 1971 as one of the twelve founding members of the World Hockey Association (WHA). They joined the NHL in 1979 when the WHA merged with the NHL.

The Oilers have won five Stanley Cup championships, in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990. The team has also won seven Western Conference championships and fourteen Northwest Division championships.

Some of the most notable players in Oilers history include Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, and Connor McDavid. The Oilers have also had a number of successful coaches, including Glen Sather, Kevin Lowe, and Todd McLellan.

The Oilers play their home games at Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton. The arena opened in 2016 and has a capacity of over 18,000 fans.
